Flu Season: When should I get my flu shot?
Fall-the leaves turn red and school starts. Unfortunately, along with Halloween and pumpkin spice-themed food the season also signals the start of flu season. What many people want to know, is when is the best time to get your flu shot?
According to the CDC, you should absolutely get your flu shot done before the end of October, but earlier is better since the vaccination takes about 2 weeks to take effect. If you don't get your flu shot before the end of October, you are putting yourself and others at risk of getting sick. However, you can still get vaccinated as the flu vaccine is typically offered through January.
The staff at the Oak Hills Pharmacy highly encourage you to get your flu vaccination. While the flu for many people can be a simple inconvenience that causes them to miss work or school, it can be potentially deadly. In the 2017-2018 flu season alone, the CDC recorded an estimated 79,000 flu related deaths-much higher than previous years. This could be for a number of reasons, but one may be the low vaccination rates among certain populations as well as the anti-vax movement.
Please remember that skipping your vaccinations may be a personal choice, but it's not a wise one. When you do so, you put yourself and your loved ones in serious danger. So please, come in and get your vaccination today!
